Kevin's Blog Posts

"I received my B.A., Ed.M and J.D. all from the State University of New York at Buffalo and I am a member of the Erie County and New York State Bar Associations. As a member of HoganWillig's Family and Criminal Law Departments, I regularly assist individuals who are in a very difficult time of their lives. I believe it is my task to calmly offer skilled advice and perspective amidst a trying situation at hand.

I am very fortunate to practice with a firm where a team of attorneys can be readily called upon to assist a particular client in various areas of practice. Particularly in the Criminal and Family Law areas, clients have an advantage because of the comprehensive services they are provided by attorneys in virtually all areas of the law. In the family law area, my colleagues and I assist individuals with family court proceedings which most commonly involve custody/visitation and/or paternity and support proceedings. We also assist individuals in all aspects of Supreme Court matrimonial proceedings such as actions for divorce, separation, or those seeking an enforcement of a previously entered judgment or agreement.

We also regularly assist individuals with the preparation of pre-nuptial agreements. We do our best to handle these situations in such a fashion as to minimize acrimony between the parties. This generally leads to a context where some form of agreed upon resolution is more likely to occur which has the added benefit of minimizing the emotional and financial costs that litigation entails. We encourage parties to resolve their issues using various available forms of alternative dispute resolution. As a result I have received training in mediation (a process where mediator acts as a neutral party, not representing either party), assisting with communication in the development of an agreement, as well as collaborative law (a process where each party is represented by an attorney trained in this process which involves both parties agreeing to that and being committed to a resolution through agreement without resorting the judicial process).  I am also a member of WNY Collaborative Law Professionals, Ltd. Although the majority of cases in the family law arena are resolved by agreement, for those cases where litigation is necessary, we have in the past and will continue in the future to aggressively bring issues of importance to the attention of the appropriate court in order to bring about appropriate relief.

A further subset of our family law work may involve child-protective proceedings, family offense cases, and those involving troubled children such as PINS or juvenile delinquency proceedings.

In the criminal law area, I have handled numerous cases in local, state, and federal courts. Each case, although different, required a thorough understanding of an individual's background as well as the underlying facts that lead to the charge so that the defense may be appropriately presented."
