May 7, 2008 - Ohio School Bus Crash Leaves 3 Children Injured

The Ohio State Highway Patrol cited the driver of a semi truck today for colliding with a school bus early Wednesday morning. The crash caused 3 children and the bus driver to be sent to a central Ohio hospital for injuries sustained.

The injured students were in the first, second, and 10th grades at Marion City Schools. The children were examined at Marion General Hospital and then released, according to assistant school superintendent, Roger George. The 63-year-old bus driver was also released after being treated for her injuries.

The accident happened just before 7 a.m. Wednesday in northern Delaware County, about 30 miles north of Columbus. Troopers say the bus had stopped at a red light and was rear-ended by a truck just after the bus had begun to take off.

The driver of the truck, Kevin Lemons, was not hurt in the crash. The citation charges the 43-year-old Dry Ridge, Ky., resident of failing to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front of him.
