May 30, 2008 - 6 Students Injured in Bleacher Collapse at Oregon School

Bleachers collapsed during a sixth-grade class photo on Friday, injuring 6 students at a Hillsboro, Oregon, school.

The collapse occurred at West Union Elementary School when students gathered on the bleachers Friday morning.

The students suffered only minor injuries, according to school officials. Of the 6 students injured, 3 were immediately transported to a local hospital. School officials were trying to contact parents of the other 3 students before taking them to the hospital.

The rest of the sixth-graders involved in the incident sustained only small scrapes and bumps or were uninjured in the collapse.

The cause of the accident is unknown, but officials say an investigation is underway.
