Cécile Meyer brings a strong transactional experience to her practice in HoganWillig's Corporate and Business Law department.
At HoganWillig, Mrs. Meyer represents small and medium sized businesses from their inception to their dissolution or sale. She advises businesses as they are started, whether it is through the formation of corporations, LLCs, and not for profits (including NY incorporation and 501(c)(3) applications) or business stock and asset purchases.
Cécile also helps businesses grow, through business planning and succession (with a focus on Buy-Sell Agreements and real estate assets), contract drafting, negotiation and review, commercial real estate purchases and sales, the review of commercial leases, and applications for a variety of business certifications and licenses (in particular with the NYS Liquor Authority).
Cécile's goal is to resolve business disputes outside of the courts, whether they are commercial disputes or shareholder, member or partner disputes, and to resort to commercial/civil litigation only when necessary. She also addresses a range of business issues from not for profit governance and compliance to assisting distressed businesses.
Finally, Mrs. Meyer handles the firm's foreclosures, both on the lender and the borrower side, and guides borrowers through different forms of loss mitigation, including loan modifications, short sales and deeds in lieu.
Cécile is a native French speaker, who has benefited from a bilingual education between France and the United States. Cécile attended the University of Paris 10, where she combined the study of the French civil system and the British and American common law systems, and developed an interest in international law, focusing on European Union Law, Public International Law and Comparative Law. She then had the opportunity to attend Albany Law School as a foreign exchange student.
While at Albany Law School, Cécile clerked with the Environmental Protection Bureau at the New York Office of the Attorney General. Her prior experience also includes a clerkship in Intellectual Property Law at the Paris office of one of the world's top 10 law firms, an in-house counsel position focused on international commercial operations at the headquarters of a global pharmaceutical company in Paris, and an Associate Attorney position at a general practice in Albany, NY.
Mrs. Meyer is Treasurer of the Alliance Française de Buffalo (French Alliance of Buffalo), a not for profit organization that encourages the study of the French language and gathers its members around French cultural and social events.
